module 1 logo

About this course:

Suitable for those who already teach bell handling and want to update their skills AND for those who have never taught anyone to handle a bell, Module 1 provides you with the skills and techniques necessary to take a ringer from their first lesson to having competent bell control.

You will learn through a mixture of practical and classroom sessions:

  • How to teach a skill
  • How to break down bell handling into easy stages that the new ringer can master
  • About different learning types and how to adapt your teaching for them
  • The benefits of intensive teaching

The practical sessions will give you plenty of time to practise your new skills in a safe environment. Working in pairs you will also have opportunity to hone your observation skills and get feedback on your feedback.

Delegates are advised to bring a packed lunch on the day, or make their own arrangements for lunch, (there is a tea shop across the road who offer sandwiches).

Members of the KCACR are eligible to reclaim their course fees from the KCACR.

This course is now open for general bookings.

Roger Booth

Tutor

Now living in Hampshire after spending 40 years in London, Roger has held various posts within local ringing societies. For a long time, Roger was also a member of the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers and served on its Ringing Centres, Towers & Belfries, Redundant Bells and Administrative Committees. He has played a leading role in five major bell restoration projects, as well as many smaller projects, and the transfer of several redundant rings of bells. He therefore became concerned about the need to improve the recruitment and training of ringers in order to ensure there were adequate numbers of ringers to ring these restored bells going forward. Roger is currently a trustee of the Mobile Belfries Trust and an ART Tutor. He has an interest in the use of simulators and is a former member of the ART Management Committee.
